Darling and Slightly Odd Vintage Pixieware Condiment Jars

For some unknown (to me) reason, during the 1950s several tableware companies became obsessed with pixies! Companies like Davar, Howard Holt, and Lefton created all sorts of cute and impish little figures to adorn their kitchen goods and tabletop serving items. Here's a look at some of my current favorites:

This Davar ketchup condiment jar is the one that would get used the most in my house!

Here's the Pixieware mustard condiment jar featuring red hair.

And this Davar mustard jar features a pixie with green hair. Or is it a stem? A topknot?

You couldn't set up a proper mid-century bar without olives!

This cherry jar pixie looks downright cranky!

This Davar jam 'n jelly jar is so adorable!

The pixie holding the cocktail onions looks like he's about to cry. Maybe the onions are stinging his little eyes?

This weird figural onion family set makes me laugh. The set contains an oil and vinegar, salt and pepper anthropomorphic onion figures. It's from the 1950s just like the pixieware.

Here's the Howard Holt Company's version of the pixie olive condiment jar.

Here's another piece by Holt Howard: a pixie boy hors d'oeuvres dish.

They also made a girl pixie hors d'oeuvres plate.

Here's an adorable pixie cookie jar from Howard Holt!

These vintage Holt Howard pixie cruets were meant to hold oil and vinegar.

Ok so technically this marmalade jar from Lefton doesn't depict a pixie. But the little citrus face is so cute!

This poor little Lefton figural relish jar is crying!

Hope you enjoyed this little tour!

Vintage Telephone Gossip Chairs

There are some pieces of furniture I really wish carried through the ages. Gossip benches and chairs are definitely one of them. I know how almost useless they are since everything is kept on cell phones, but there have been plenty of times where I need a designated phone space. Sometimes I even need a place to take notes or keep a log of people and places I call often. These Gossip Chairs on Etsy would be great for any antique collector or just someone who misses the good ol' days.

This is a really simple and small 1940 Telephone Gossip Chair. Even though the wood looks worn, it's still a very beautiful piece. You can even see rings on the table from the residue of a glass someone from long ago probably used. Storage is underneath the seat.

This Floral Gossip Chair has almost an identical style as the latter. You can actually see the back of the chair has the same design and the storage space is also under the chair. It doesn't look worn, in fact it looks refurbished. It's nice, but I would prefer to see the markings of history on it too.

This funky Historic Greyhound Bus Station Evansville Gossip Chair would add a little pizzazz to your house. I can honestly see decorating a little girl's room with this. It's small, light weight, and really cute!

I like how much storage this Teal Telephone Gossip Chair has! This fun pattern on the seat makes the whole piece pop! I could utilize this particular chair the most out of all of them so far. It would add a lot of character to a room.

I wanted to show my favorite at the very end. This Art Nouveau Antique Gossip Bench is stunning. I want to find a way to make this work in my home. There's enough storage for exactly what I am looking for and it's just a beautiful piece.

This mid-century gossip chair has been painted white for a clean fresh look.

Take a look at more Gossip Chairs on Etsy! Which one is your favorite? Tell me about it below!

These coloring books are great for creative fashionistas. Adventure through the past with these adult coloring books.

What a fun way to look into the fashion of the 50's. This Creative Haven Fabulous Fashions of the 1950s Adult Coloring Book is filled with many awesome pictures. Not only that, they are simple yet detailed at the same time. If you're like me, coloring in the small details is the best part!

This is one of my favorite fashion periods. The Creative Haven Art Deco Fashions Adult Coloring Book is filled with much detail, but not too much where it's overwhelming. The dresses are amazing! I wish contemporary designers would start making dresses like this.

This Fashions of the Roaring Twenties Adult Coloring Book is absolutely gorgeous. The 1920's is another one of my favorite fashion periods, mostly for its significance in feminist history. The illustrations look so elegant and alive!

Gorgeous and Unusual Orange Atomic Art Deco Dishes and Dinnerware

These funky and very cool Orange Atomic Art Deco Dishes and Dinnerware by SusabellaBrownstein on Etsy are fabulous. I may be biased since one of my favorite colors is orange, but you just don't see these kinds of dishes anymore.

This ceramic Atomic Art Deco Coffee Set for 4 is from the 1930's. It comes with cups, saucers, triangle plates, creamer, sugar bowl, coffeepot with the lid. It reminds me of how history tends to repeat itself. They almost look so modern!

Honestly, a whole tea set might be too much, so the Atomic Art Deco Creamer & Sugar Set would be great to have. I like how they stack on top of each other. The shape of the set is really cool. I think the color just adds to its greatness.

Lastly, I really like this Dinnerware Set for 12. Look at how all the plates nicely line up on the table! Springtime is coming up and these would be great dishes for Easter or just for the season. They're beautiful!

It's definitely really cool to see what dishware looked like almost a century ago! Take a look at Orange Atomic Art Deco Dishes and Dinnerware by SusabellaBrownstein on Etsy.

It has always been my dream to ride in one of these. This Retro Woodie Surfer Wagon Box would be especially fun to deliver some treats in. This comes in different colors and styles such as cream, orange, and teal. Check them out!

This is the smallest box out of the ones I will show, but I'm sure there are many clever ideas for it. The Cassette Tape Box could be used as a gift box for small little gadgets like a USB drive (full of romantic music of course.) This one is very customizable as well.

The trendy VW Beetle Bug Box will probably never go out of style. It's large enough for so many different sweets from small candies to cookies. I have a couple friends who love the old Volkswagen Bug that would appreciate this gift box. There is also a Pink Downloadable Beetle Bug Box for those who do not want blue!

Darling New Western and Cowboy Themed Board Book for Babies

This adorable Wild West themed alphabet board book for babies comes out in March. The illustrator is Greg Paprocki, who has done the art for several other cute BabyLit books from Gibbs Smith.

When my dad was growing up in the 1950s and early 1960s, cowboys and the Wild West were a huge part of his (and probably every other American boy's) life. He had Western themed toys, cowboy hat and boots, and watched all the Westerns with my grampa.

I'm tempted to get this book for my dad's new grandkid (whenever one of my stepsisters gives birth to one!) so Grampa can read this colorful, cute retro styled book to the new baby. D'awww.

"V is for Vittles" will arrive on March 1st. Get your copy on Amazon or at Barnes and Noble!

Mimm Studio's Retro Coasters

I know there can never be enough coasters in my house. They always seem to go missing! When I ran into these vintage designed coasters by Mimm Studio on Etsy I needed to share. There is something for every one, so take a look!

Wouldn't these Vintage Tea Cup Coasters be really cute for springtime? It reminds me of my first cup of tea on a nice sunny spring morning looking out at my yard. It's really one of my favorite times of the year!

I almost want to combine the former with these Vintage Flower Coasters. I tend to throw lots of parties and I think a cute Victorian tea party would be so fun! Having these coasters would enhance the experience with the beautiful flower illustrations.

I think these Vintage Sports Coasters are actually quite cool. We often forget where baseball and American football started. These coasters are a blast from the past! I'm not a huge sports fan, but I can appreciate the history behind it all. Plus these would be a great gift for huge sports fans!

Who doesn't love Art Deco? Here's a set of four Art Deco coasters. I love the cute short hairstyles on the ladies.

Clearly these Vintage French Wine Coasters are a must have. These retro wine labels are so cool and would be great for my small dinner parties. I would also just use these everyday at home! I can't have enough wine in my house!

These Vintage French Hair Salon Coasters are really cool. It's so amazing to see what tools they used for styling hair about a century ago. This would be a great gift for any hair stylist or someone who is really into hair trends.

This set is one of my favorites, the Retro Hollywood Coasters. They have prints of Lauren Bacall, Ava Gardner, Jane Russell, and I believe Gene Tierney. All are great and memorable actresses from the early to mid 20th century!

There are plenty of other retro coasters from Mimm Studio on Etsy. I just wanted to show you my favorites! What do you think? Tell me about it down below in the comments section.

Beautiful Vintage French Kitchenwares from Scrumptious Venus

I just stumbled onto the Scrumptious Venus Etsy shop this morning and I'm so glad I did! I'm enjoying browsing - what an enjoyable way to spend my Sunday morning, mug of tea in hand, pets snuggled up nearby.

Shop owner Sandra is a French ex-pat living in Southern California. She's found the most lovely vintage French things for the kitchen! Here, let me show you a few of my favorites.

Check out the astonishing bright pink color of this Peugeot coffee mill! It dates from the 1950s. I don't drink coffee, so I'm frantically trying to think up a legitimate excuse to buy this and display it in my kitchen.

This store has quite a large selection of vintage French coffee mills besides this one!

I've never seen enamel sauce pans like these. From the 1930s, they're described as an Art Deco Red.

If you have a retro red-and-white kitchen, here's a striking French enamel coffee pot that would go perfectly in it. I can't get over what great shape this 1920s coffee pot is in!

I'm not a big fan of the color yellow, but I have to admit this is a darling vintage French enamel pitcher. It's most likely meant for milk, but I can see myself pouring out some sweet lemonade from it, too.

I had a hard time deciding which of the lovely vintage salt boxes to share with you, and finally settled on the orange one.

This tureen is a beautiful example of ironstone transferware from the late 1800s. This shop has many other ironstone dishes on offer.

Imagine going to light your kitchen candle and drawing out matches from this lovely vintage French small wall hanging matches box! It's from the 1920s and made from tin.

Now for the pièce de résistance, as the French would say: Look at this gorgeous set of vintage French enamel nesting canisters and matching match box! Stunning! The canisters are marked in French for flour, sugar, chicory, coffee, pepper, and pasta. They're the wrong color for my kitchen, or else I would be sorely tempted!

Here's another marvelous set of vintage canisters, this time in yellow and white.

I can just picture a cheerful bouquet of spring tulips peeping out of this enamel coffee pot should you choose to use it that way!

I hope you enjoyed exploring the Scrumptious Venus shop as much as I did!
